The Lawrence and Martha Joseph Residence and Apartments in Culver City, is a significant example of Storybook architecture in Los Angeles. Between 1946 and 1970 Lawrence Joseph, a former Disney artist, expert carpenter and sailor, created fairytale decor with nautical themes in both the main single-family residence and two adjacent two-story buildings/cottages with apartments inside.
The LA Conservancy holds an easement protecting integral landscape elements, as well as the exterior façade and interior features created by Lawrence Joseph. The main house, a two-bedroom, one-bathroom cottage is up for rent at $1695 a month. I want to live there.
