  1. I saw the work of Yves Marchand and Romain Meffre previously on the web, and was so blown away that I bought two copies of "The Ruins of Detroit".

I grew up in Windsor, and work in the auto industry, so this was very close to home. I've also had a lifelong interest in photography, so I'm usually pretty hard to impress. Their work is absolutely amazing, and they're just a couple of pimply french kids from the Paris suburbs. They don't have any personal pictures on their web site, since nobody would believe that people that young could master old view camera techniques and film.

Did I say it was amazing? That's an understatement. Get the book if you can find it.

  2. Mr. Nag grew up in Essex and spent a lot of time in Detroit; he has followed the decline of the city with dismay. The book might be a good Christmas gift for him. I'll check it out. Good to hear from you!

  3. The book would be an excellent gift, especially for anyone who was/is familiar with Detroit.

It has high quality printing from a German publisher.

I see it's available new at Indigo online for about $85, and at Amazon for around $110 new. For some reason used copies are more expensive.

That's an incredible bargain for such a well made book of photos.

On a bitchy note, I still follow your site regularly, but I gave up on posting comments when you had to log in to an external site. This is one of the rare exceptions.

  4. I changed my comment settings because I was getting an awful lot of spam. I know signing in deters comments. I'll switch back to the default setting for awhile and see if spam is still a problem.
