Peafowl first came to the Palos Verdes Peninsula almost a century ago when Palos Verdes founder Frank Vanderlip, a New York banker, received six pairs of blue peacocks and a pair of rare white peacocks as a gift from Jackson “Lucky” Baldwin of Arcadia. Today there are hundreds of peafowl roaming streets and roofs in the city of Rolling Hills Estates and they have become the unofficial mascot of the community. The peacocks even have their own Facebook page.
