Gardening: A Dangerous Occupation

Saturday I bent over to cut some dill in my garden and brought my eye down hard on a tomato wire stake (below). Ouch, ouch, ouch! I put a patch over it but took it off to go to the theatre yesterday. Big mistake. I watched the play with one hand covering my throbbing eye.
After two days of excruciating pain I went to emergency today and found I had scratched the cornea. I feel lucky I didn't lose the eye.  Next time I cut herbs I'll wear safety glasses.

  1. Did the same thing two weeks ago; amazing how many nerves are in that area, and how loudly they squalk. If they recommend antibiotics, take the advice.. it's easy to get an infection after the fact.

  2. Apparently there was no infection but they gave me a tetanus shot and a topical analgesic that has returned me to the land of the living.

  4. Bruce, I washed it out, took a tylenol 3 and went to a solstice party with my patch on. Lots of jokes about cutting my leg off and getting a peg leg and a parrot.

  5. They really should make those stakes a different colour!

Hope you have a speedy recovery!

  6. Thanks Steve. My vision is still cloudy but my eye is open today. Yay!
