Make Your Own 1950s Space Patrol Helmets!

Space Patrol was a bit before my time so I'm not familiar with the show although it was consistently ranked in the Top 10 shows shown on Saturdays in the early 50s.

In this video Commander Corry tells kids how they can make their very own Desert Crash Helmet ("flight-tested" by famous spacemen) from household odds and ends. The sharp edges look like they could slice a young face to ribbons.




If only I had a copy of the August 1953 issue of Woman’s Day I could make my own helmet from an unused pressure cooker, an inverted colander and a couple of empty tuna cans.
