Robots Direct Traffic In Congo

In Kinshasa, the capital city of Congo, two large robots are being used in place of police officers to direct traffic and pedestrians. My first reaction was "couldn't traffic lights perform the same function?" Apparently the robots are more effective because people are intimidated by them. Would you obey a robot traffic overlord? You might if only because they also have the capacity to issue tickets.

The robot is in action on Triomphal Boulevard in Kinshasa, at the intersection of Asosa,
Huileries and Patrice Lumumba streets. (Junior D. Kannah/AFP/Getty Images)
