Thunderdome

With their hands and feet, they punch, kick, tackle and choke each other. And then, sometimes, they cry. Welcome to Thunderdome, where winners and losers can be as young as age 5.
New York-based photographer Sebastian Montalvo pulls back the curtain on kids' MMA, or Mixed Martial Arts, one of the nation's fastest growing youth sports. I'd heard of MMA but did not know that  more than 3 million boys and girls are involved in it.

Adult MMA has been legal in Ontario since 2010 but I've always considered it to be barbaric.
When my sons were little they swam, sailed, skied and played baseball, basketball and soccer. These non-violent sports kept them active and fit, for the most part without tears.
