Wartime ID Badges

Mark Michaelson authored the book Least Wanted, a record of mostly poor people who lived on the outskirts of society. He has an extensive set of wartime ID badges on Flickr.
During wartime vital plants needed to make sure that no saboteurs slipped in.These photo badges gave employees in the war effort sector permission to enter their workplaces during WW II. Do you think they'd be an effective security measure today?
