Photos from the 1862 royal tour of the Middle East

In 1862, the then Prince of Wales, who later became King Edward VII, went on an educational tour of the Middle East. He was accompanied by the British photographer, Francis Bedford, who catalogued the journey.

This picture shows the Syrian capital, Damascus, in ruins following the
 conflict of 1860.
The Prince of Wales and his travelling party among ruins in Karnak,
Thebes, which is part of the modern Egyptiancity of Luxor.
