This guy bought his mum a cheap camera, all that he could afford at the time. He was blown away by the images she's captured and wants to buy her a DSLR. What do you think?
I had a girlfriend like that. She asked me to teach her how to use my camera. Straight away, she started capturing beautiful images. We could be at the same place, looking at the same thing, and her pictures would be better than mine.
Sigh.
And I remember, in a photographt magazine, long, long ago, when photos were taken on rolls of film.. a comparative experiment. Random amateurs were given pro-quality cameras and an assignment. and some top pro photographers were sent out with cheap instamatics. Guess who captured the best images?
It proved to me that the key lies in seeing, not in having a big name piece of kit, a bagful of lenses and filters and toys.
Get her a better camera, but don't bog her down in technology, just let her use her eye.
Get her the camera she wants, if you can afford it. My teenage daughter got a DSLR camera for Christmas after wanting one for years. We got a good used one for half of what a new one would cost.
Cameras don't take pictures - People take pictures. Mom's got a good eye! Get her the Camera!
ReplyDeleteI agree, there is no question to be settled here.... the results speak for themselves.
ReplyDeleteShe should have a sale and sell her photographs and stuff from her junk drawers. Then she could afford to buy her own camera.
ReplyDeleteCartier-Bresson did it with a Leica and a 50mm lens. It's the eye that matters most
