Appetite for Art

Frescoes in the Church of Santos Juanes in Valencia, Spain have been badly damaged by neglect (nesting pigeons have created salt blooms on the surface) and glue left behind after faulty restoration attempts. Who ya gonna call? Pseudomonas stutter. These "smart" bacteria are grown  in a medium containing salt and glue and when spread on the frescoes they devour these substances. Afterwards they are washed off and the frescoes are dried.
So far one third of the Santos Juanes frescoes have been restored using this method.
