Tim Webb - A is for Autism

I have autism, I am not autistic

Are you a person who has emotions, talents?
Or are just.. Fat, with glasses, or clumsy?
i have distorted emotional perceptions
In daily life most of you wouldn't notice the ...
smells, sounds, scenes, touching and everything could disturb me.
An ordinary shopping could be a complete nightmare for me
The squeaky wheel of the shopping carts, the mechanical announcement of discounted product again and again, the transaction sounds of the tills
This is a total nightmare for me...

Don't think I don't listen to your commands
Maybe I don't understand you
When you call me form the other room
the thing I hear could be only a sign language
Instead of that... come to me and talk to directly with easy words
I could be hurt, afraid or confused

Focus on the things I succeed
Not the one's I can't
And build something on those things
discover my powerful talents
Help me to socialize
When you look me from outside
You might think I don't want to play with other kids
But sometimes It could be I don't know how to do that
Encouraging other children to invite me to their play could be a good idea.

Find out what disturbs me
When you find out the reason why I get disturbed
Then you could prevent it from happening again.

Please love me unconditionally
I wish he was like that
I wish he could do this
Keep those thoughts away from your head
Do you fill the expectations of your family?
Autism isn't my choice
Don't forget I am living this situation, Not you.
Without your support it's not likely to have a successful and happy life
I promise I deserve this
Patience Patience Patience
Autism isn't something missing
Try to look at it as if it's a different talent
All right, maybe I won't be the next Michael jordan.
But with my extraordinary focus capacity, I could be the next Einstein, Mozart or Van gogh. Even now researches say that these people might had autism.

If you aren't with me I can't do this
Be my friend and teacher
Support me
You will see where I will get.
Always Unique, Totally Interesting, Sometimes Mysterious*

Thanks for this wonderful reminder of why I chose the profession that I'm in.

I'm making a copy of this and putting it on my wall.

    Cheers

  2. I'm glad you liked it, Janice. I used to work with kids with disabilities and this struck a chord with me too.
