When I was a little girl there was a huge buzz about Peyton Place, a primetime soap opera about small town life based on the shocking (for the times) novel by Grace Metalious. Of course I wanted to watch it but my mother decided I was too young and so I had to content myself with catching snippets about the stars in supermarket movie mags. Mia Farrow aka Allison MacKenzie was my favourite. I still remember the public uproar when she cut her hair and again when she married Frank Sinatra who was more than twice her age.
Letters of Note has published a letter she received from Paul Monash, the producer of the soap, chastising her for cutting her hair:
