Merry Clayton and Gimme Shelter

Those of us who are a certain age remember Merry Clayton's soaring backup vocals on the Rolling Stones hit Gimme Shelter. Here's her own very dark version recorded in 1970.

There's lots more at John Gushue . . . Dot Dot Dot

  1. The recording was 1970, but I wonder when the video was made? The first copy of the statue of the gun tied in a knot was made in 1980, so it must be after that.

  5. Chilling! What an amazing voice...and the video (assumed added later) did her song justice.

  6. It's a pretty famous piece, the first being done in response to Lennons shooting. There's a copy parked in front of the UN.
