Matthew Adam Garber (25 March 1956 – 13 June 1977) was the child actor who played Michael Banks in Walt Disney's Mary Poppins.
What did he do after Mary Poppins you ask? Well, he only acted in one more movie after that. Matthew Garber again paired up with Karen Dotrice (his sister from Mary Poppins, Jane Banks) in the 1967 Disney movie,

Funnily enough, my kids were watching MP this weekend, and I looked him up on IMDB and discovered his untimely death at such a young age. I wondered what caused it (apparently there were rumours, claimed untrue, of drugs and alchohol).... whatever the cause, a sad fate.

ReplyDeleteI just finished reading "Plain Tales from the Raj". 2 things really stood out for me.
1 - The appalling quickness of death. You could meet someone on Tuesday and they might be dead on Wednesday.
2 - And the northwest frontier was under constant siege. All the time the British were in India, they were under attack from snipers and arms thieves every time they left their forts.
Makes you realize the futility of trying to occupy Afghanistan.
If the snipers don't get you the bacteria will. Life is unbelievably fragile in some parts of the world.
