Today in History

Mohandas Gandhi, a young Indian lawyer in South Africa, is thrown off a train while traveling to Praetoria, after refusing to leave a first-class compartment that was restricted to whites. This incident, among others, primes the determination to meet injustice with civil disobedience that will characterize Gandhi's leadership of India's nationalist movement.
