Ho Chi Minh , Vietnamese Communist leader and the principal force behind the Vietnamese struggle against French colonial rule, died on this day in 1969. This is a great archive.
In the early 1900's he worked in restaurants in Paris and London. This brought to mind a recent trip to a downscale restaurant in Paris where I watched a group of Californians bullying a Vietnamese waiter, grilling him about fat content, etc.(en anglais of course). The young fellow was run off his feet, serving many tables and he didn't need any more aggravation. "How do you know this boy is not another Ho Chi Minh?" I thought to myself.
