Metropolitan Opera shuns Rufus Wainwright's French libretto

New York's Metropolitan Opera has turned down an opera by singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright (a bit of a diva himself) because he wrote it in French and refused to translate the libretto into English. That's too bad because the story sounds like it would make great opera. Prima Donna is about a day in the life of an ageing opera star in 1970s Paris.
I suppose they won't be performing Verdi or Puccini anymore either because they wrote in Italian.
