For the past twenty + years I have been doing my laundry in the creepy dank basement (also known as Mould Central) of my turn of the last century house. We live a few blocks from Lake Ontario and most (if not all) of the neighbourhood basements are damp. We have a trough that runs around the edge of the basement to catch water. Mosquitos breed in the standing water there and find their way up to the second floor bathroom even in winter (West Nile alert!). I wouldn't go down there after dark if my life depended on it. It is a dark and cobwebby dungeon and doing laundry is #1 on my Chores I Hate list.
When we moved to Niagara-on-the-Lake I had two young sons and operated a B &B. I needed large machines and had to run them pretty well non-stop. We didn't have an area upstairs where I could install a laundry room without interfering with someone's space and/or peace and quiet.
Now Mr. Nag and I are empty nesters. Our dryer is broken and we are replacing it with a smaller unit in anticipation of constructing a main floor laundry room. I am seeing light at the end of the tunnel!
I would love to have an area like the ones in this ASKO Creative Laundry video but will likely have to settle for something a little less grand. Not to worry as long as I can at long last emerge from my dungeon.
