No Empty Nest Syndrome Here!
No Empty Nest Syndrome
My fledgling returned from school and does not seem poised to leave the nest any time soon; it dismays me to see a room in my otherwise tidy house looking like a cyclone hit it. At least he has kept the contamination localized so far- and he often makes me dinner.
Real Empty Nest Syndrome
Empty Nest
This is all that was left of the little cardinals and their nest beside our porch after the nasty feline from across the street savaged them. This cat is a real menace and, for some reason, the owner won't bell it. Of course said owner is in her nineties so probably has other things occupying her mind - like when the almighty feline god will savage her.

No Hassle
David Hasselhoff calls his agent and demands, "I want everyone to call me The Hoff from now on." His agent replies "Sure! No hassle." Why do I find this funny??

Everyone loves my magnolia
Magnolia
At this time of year everyone stops to take in our lovely magnolia tree. It grew in the shade of two large maples and, as a result of reaching for the light, developed an interesting twisty shape - almost oriental. At this time of year the tree becomes the victim of the Niagara-on-the-Lake tourist paparazzi - I imagine that there are photos of it in albums around the world.

Family
Cousins
The only positive thing to say about funerals is that it brings families together. The memorial service for my mother did that - all her children, grandchildren and siblings and some of their children were there. There's been a diaspora so people had to make a real effort to get to Montreal and they did. It was also good to see some of my mum's friends. She left Montreal for Arkansas twenty years ago but there were still some who remembered her fondly. I was the crybaby and there were so many to comfort me. And the sun came out - a real bonus at a graveside service.

A handy device
Waistband Stretcher
Mr. Nag and I may have to resort to this device soon. I can still see my toes - but for how much longer? Thank god someone is looking out for people like us.
Seriously though, compared to Arkansans we are anorexic. Everyone there who is over 25 or 30 is obese. When we were in Jonesboro recently we might as well have been aliens (and not just because we didn't say y'all); some people actually stared at us, especially my two sisters who are very slim (I have slightly dimpled thighs and a bicycle sized spare tire).
No wonder St. Bernard's Hospital is a major cardiac care centre.

They didn't seem so crazy then
crazy comics
This from Bifurcated Rivets. Believe it or not I was the biggest Superman fan ever. The only thing my dad ever brought us was comic books. He seldom visited but when he did he brought Superman and Batman and the Justice League of America and the Junior Justice League and some dopey ones like Archie. I loved them until I became a teenager and moved on to Romance comics - what a genre that was, even compared to the "Helmet of Hate".
