1927 Great Mississippi River Flood

This video restoration and colorization shows the magnitude of the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927. It was the most destructive river flood in the history of the United States, with 27,000 square miles (70,000 km2) inundated in depths of up to 30 feet (9 m) over the course of several months in early 1927. Approximately 500 people died as a result of flooding. An estimated 750,000 people were left without food and water, clothing, or work, and authorities were severely criticized for favouring the white population during rescue and relief operations.
