The Alternative Heritage Plaque for John Venn - the inventor of the Venn diagram - in his birthplace Kingston upon Hull in Yorkshire.Venn was a mathematician, logician and philosopher, the ninth consecutive Venn family Anglican priest, an advocate for women’s rights, a gardening enthusiast who won awards for his roses and white carrots, and the bearer of a magnificent Victorian beard. He also invented a machine for bowling cricket balls: Victor Trumper (Australia’s golden batsman of the era) faced it in Cambridge in 1909, and was clean bowled four times.
