A Cultural Centre On Wheels

The Shed is a structure that moves via a system of huge wheels that run on rails. They’re similar to those of a train, with one major difference: they are almost two metres in diameter. Telescoping from the main building, an eight-million-pound movable outer shell travels on a double-wheel track to expand and retract. It opened as a cultural centre in Hudson Yards, New York City in 2019.

The video shows the movable structure moves from shading the building to shading the patio for lack of a better term. It's a shame they don't show the panels that fold down to actually enclose the space.

    1. I’m envisioning 8 million pounds of culture careening madly down 11th Avenue, crushing everything in its path.

  3. We saw this in December 2022, during our visit to Hudson Yards enroute to The Whitney. I did'n realoze it was on wheels.

It’s not too interesting unless it’s in motion.
