The Shed is a structure that moves via a system of huge wheels that run on rails. They’re similar to those of a train, with one major difference: they are almost two metres in diameter. Telescoping from the main building, an eight-million-pound movable outer shell travels on a double-wheel track to expand and retract. It opened as a cultural centre in Hudson Yards, New York City in 2019.
The video shows the movable structure moves from shading the building to shading the patio for lack of a better term. It's a shame they don't show the panels that fold down to actually enclose the space.

ReplyDeleteI’m envisioning 8 million pounds of culture careening madly down 11th Avenue, crushing everything in its path.
DeleteWe saw this in December 2022, during our visit to Hudson Yards enroute to The Whitney. I did'n realoze it was on wheels.
ReplyDeleteIt’s not too interesting unless it’s in motion.
