Artful Toast

“The heat of the toaster reveals its nature unexpectedly.”

Ukiyo-e Toast
Sour cream/bonito powder/squid ink/purple cabbage/
paprika/radish/naruto/myoga/surimi/young corn/enoki mushroom/chervil/dried seaweed/gold leaf

When Japanese designer Manami Sasaki was stuck at home during the Covid pandemic she took her asagohan (breakfast) up a notch. Inspired by Japanese traditions like karesansui, Ukiyo-e and kintsugi, she began using toast as an outlet for her creativity.

Zen Garden (karesansui) Toast 
sour cream / walnuts /
macadamia nuts / matcha

Kintsugi Toast
Sour cream, edible gold leaf, and ketchup.
