Toronto Power Building - Adaptive Reuse


Built in 1906 on the banks of the upper Niagara River overlooking the Canadian Horseshoe Falls, Toronto Power supplied electricity for communities across Ontario before ceasing operations in 1974. The building, designed by renowned architect E.J. Lennox, is a National Historic Site that has lain dormant for many years.
A new redevelopment proposal would preserve the nationally significant heritage building and generate new revenue for Niagara Parks as a self-funded organization.

    Yes, the early power companies built grand edifices to house their turbine-generators. The one in Philly is magnificent. I was in one at Redondo Beach CA, which had a beautiful front but it was typical Hollywood as the back of the building was corrugated metal and steel. Battersea even had a flying pig. LoL
