Crestwood Hills mid-century utopian community: What began as four musicians wanting to raise the level of middle-income family housing turned into a successful housing cooperative effort in the Santa Monica Mountains on some of the most prime real estate in the country. Residents were limited to single-storey homes to avoid obstructing the view of their neighbours. Of the homes built in Crestwood Hills, few of the original designs remain. Read more.

Apparently it is unusual for a woman to become psychotic for the first time at the age of 50. Read this interesting tale of an 11-year relationship that never happened. (New York Times Link)

Are you out of live bedbugs, uranium or human milk?  Frequent contributor, Bruce, sent me this list of weird things you can buy online

In October 2005, Neil Armstrong received a letter from a social studies teacher charging that the moon landings had been faked.  His response was brilliant.

The Best TV 50 Shows Of The 21st Century So Far According to The Hollywood  Reporter Mr. Nag and I were discussing our favourite TV show recently and could not decide between #1 and #2.  I’ve only seen about half of these shows but think Chernobyl, Fleabag and Veep deserve higher ratings. There were others that I found unwatchable but we won’t talk about them. I’ll let you see for yourself.

In 1967 there were Twiggy Lookalike contests scattered around the USA and elsewhere. What did the contestants have in common?

For those who like noisy keyboards: Daktilo (“typewriter” in Turkish, pronounced “duck-til-oh”, derived from the Ancient Greek word δάκτυλος for “finger”) is a small command-line program that plays typewriter sounds every time you press a key.

The Writing On The Wall  The Bebington Puzzle Stones held a special message for those who loitered outside the house.

You may not think you need another thing on your counter, but what if that thing has cheese in it? The Cheese Grotto

What sound do echidnas make? It has long been thought the animals could vocalize, but there has not been proof until nowvia  MetaFilter

There was much buzz about this place a few years ago. Dinner at Alinea in Chicago looks like a total sensory experience. (via everlasting blort)

A proper Grilled Cheese should be made with FREEDOM cheese.

So there's nothing they didn't tell you about growing old?

Ortolan and Bourdain are disgusting. I know what he'd do if his friends jumped off a bridge.

Echidnas only speak up when they're horny? I know people like that.
