Alfred Hitchcock's Rules for Watching Psycho

“We won’t allow you to cheat yourself. You must see PSYCHO from the very beginning. Therefore, do not expect to be admitted into the theatre after the start of each performance of the picture. We say no one — and we mean no one — not even the manager’s brother, the President of the United States, or the Queen of England (God bless her)!”

This is interesting. Nowadays it would hardly be necessary to insist that people arrive before the beginning of the film, since that's what virtually everyone does, but I know that back in the old days, though most people wanted to be in the theater shortly before the film started, it was also common to just buy a ticket and come in mid-film, then watch it again from the beginning again, or as many times as you liked until the theater closed. Seems like such a weird way to watch movies now.
