The return of Mongolia's "wild" horses

The wild takhi horses of Mongolia went extinct in the wild in the 1960s but a breeding program brought them back. Can animals descended from captive breeding programmes be considered the same animal?

A horse living on it's own in the wild satisfies my definition of a wild horse, whether it's grandfather was wild or not. Like people, too much concern with the family tree and not enough about the person.
