  1. Even though the family seems happy and together it reminds me somehow of a short story from like 20 years ago, from the point of view of a little boy whose life is mostly sleeping and half-waking on long car trips in the middle of the night while his mother drives them from bad situation to bad situation. I think at one point the boy is living with his father and he poisons him either to punish the man or make him stay around. The man lives, understands, and there are no repercussions from it. There are several numinous scenes of street lights going past in the fog, and maybe the title refers to that. Do you know what story I'm talking about, and who wrote it? I can't find it.

    1. Your description of the mother and son fleeing abuse reminds me of This Boy’s Life by Tobias Wolff but I don’t think he poisoned his father.
