How Fountain Pens Are Made

Here's some soothing footage from Japan's Plachina Fountain Pen Company. (I haven't used a fountain pen since my penmanship classes in elementary school.)

The newer ballpoint pens and their inks are so slick that the resistance on the paper has disappeared entirely. As I get older and my penmanship gets sloppier, I’ve found the fountain pen provides enough resistance to have better control. When writing checks, with a fountain pen the number 9 no longer has a horizontal tail at the bottom as I move to the next number. Of course you whippersnappers may not need the help.
