“Communist Language”

I'm currently watching The Americans, a show about Russian spies living in the US during the Cold War. It failed to engage me when it was first released a number of years ago but now I'm hooked. So this 1955 manual by the U.S. First Army Headquarters called How to Spot a Communist caught my attention.
"Even a superficial reading of an article written by a Communist or a conversation with one will probably reveal the use of some of the following expressions: integrative thinking, vanguard, comrade, hootenanny, chauvinism, book-burning, syncretistic faith, bourgeois-nationalism, jingoism, colonialism, hooliganism, ruling class, progressive, demagogy, dialectical, witch-hunt, reactionary, exploitation, oppressive, materialist."
Hootenanny? Seriously?

  1. I regularly use the word "hootenanny", mostly when I'm alone, so there might be something to this...
