There were duck-and-cover drills and air raid siren tests in Canadian schools during the Cuban Missile Crisis. I thought we were about to be annihilated because we lived in an apartment and couldn't dig an air raid shelter but we never really talked about it much as a family.

DeleteWe didn't either. My brother, older by five years, had to wear dogtags to school in case they needed to identify a body or reunite him with family.
