This reminds me of the logical objection to Star Trek transporter technology. To get the information to assemble a copy of you at your destination, the transporter does something like this process to the original you. Whenever someone on the ship objects to using it, everyone else is all /ha ha, come on, let's go/, and then they get in it despite this point, because of peer presure, and commit suicide so a copy of them can go on and continue their life from there. Also it's pretty.
