Interviews with people who lived in the 1800s

Tajima Nabi, a Japanese woman who died in 2018 at the age of 117 years, was our last living connection to the nineteenth century. Open Culture has posted some restored and colorized interviews with people who lived in the 1800s. Below is a video of Albert l. Salt, born in 1867. He was 14 years old when he began working for Western Electric in 1881. He rose up through the ranks to become President of the Graybar Company.

When I was a kid I spent a lot of time with my maternal grandparents. Gramp born in 1880 and Gram born in 1890, both lived til 92 and had interesting stories to tell. Gramp worked in a knitting mill until he married at 28 and bought a farm in the sticks. Gram was a domestic servant to a family who later became Shakers, until she married at 18. Of course now I wish I'd have paid closer attention.
