Guo Pei is China's first couturier. She realizes the dreams that her grandmother told her as as child. Her embroidered gowns exist somewhere between fashion, theatre, sculpture and performance. Da Jin, an 11-ft dress embroidered gown with gold thread and pearls, was her first real couture creation. It took her team 50,000 hours and $1 million to create. At the 2015 Met Gala Rihanna wore an imperial yellow gown that took the designer two years to make by hand.
