On the 4th of February, 1912, at Niagara Falls, three tourists were swept to their deaths in the raging waters. They had been enjoying the then common practise of walking across the base of the falls on a bridge of ice that sometimes formed there in winter.
Mrs Stanton was probably a victim of women's fashion of 1912 causing restricted breathing when they tried to run off the ice.
