Mary Simon is Canada's 30th Governor General and the first Indigenous person to be appointed to the position.

Her husband Whit Fraser posted this on Facebook:

By now all friends and family know my dear wife Mary is Canada’s new Governor-General When I was an active reporter, I often joked “ just because I am biased doesn’t mean I’m wrong”. I am not wrong on this, She will do an amazing job for Canada and she is just what our nation needs right now. I suppose there are a thousand pictures I could put up.. but none better than her “Cover Girl” photo about 1950 on the old Hudson Bay Magazine Moccasin Telegraph. It was taken at her home in George River now Kangiqsualujjuaq in Northern Quebec and captioned “Winsome Little Miss"—from there to Rideau Hall is a remarkable Canadian Journey Eh?
