Beach Sand Contains Bits of Coral, Quartz, Shells… and Plastic

A macro image by Cologne-based photographer Ole Bielfeldt (@macrofying) lays out the elements that comprise sand from a Mallorca beach. To the naked eye this looks like clean natural sand but, when placed under a microscope pieces of microplastic can be seen.
