The Third Man Theme

The distinctive musical score for this film was composed and played on the zither by Anton Karas. I'm certain I must have seen this at least once before but can't remember a thing about it. Time to watch it again.

  1. Because we had an ancient zither, the theme music for /Chuck Frank, Private Op/ on KKUP Cupertino in 1985 or '86, live through the phone from the Albion Whale School (Albion, CA) every Friday afternoon, sounded a lot like that, except shorter and atonal. The intro internal-voice narrator began, "A quonset hut motel on the back alley of nowhere..." and ended, "Then /she/ hadda come crawlin' back inta my life."

  2. In my opinion the zither is an underappreciated instrument but a little goes a long way.
