Indigenous Artists Across North America Bead Their Provinces And States

In early April during strict quarantine measures, CeeJay Johnson, a Dakota and Tlingit artist of Kooten Creations, beaded her state of Alaska. She then sent out a call to action to other Indigenous beadworkers across North America to bead their provinces and states hoping to encourage beadwork amid the pandemic and promote Indigenous artists' work.

Rena Laboucan, from the Driftpile Cree Nation in Northern Alberta stepped up to complete the Nunavut submission just hours before the project's August 5 deadline. The final map will be available on merchandise, with proceeds being donated to Indigenous beading programs in the U.S. and Canada.
