Drive Through Vintage Los Angeles with Through-the-Car-Window Films

The heyday of the automobile and its attendant "car culture" changed mid-20th-century Los Angeles.
Open Culture features some videos taken from the car window that capture the transformation over time of structures along Los Angeles' main roads. The first is a drive through Bunker Hill And Downtown Los Angeles in the 1940s:

  1. I think this footage was probably shot for process screen shots in films. The developed footage would be be projected on a screen in a studio, a cutaway of a car interiour would be placed in front of the screen and a scene shot with actors supposedly driving.
