Pavement Made From Recycled Tires Fixes Itself


Israel Antonio Briseño Carmona, a Mexican student and winner of the nation's James Dyson Award, has discovered a way to use recycled tires to make roads that repair themselves. Heating the tires with additives forms a putty which, in turn, creates calcium silicates that heal cracks upon contact with water.
