Tokyo 2020 Olympic Medals Will Be Made From Discarded Electronics

In a strong statement about sustainability, Japan has announced it will make the 2020 Olympic medals from recycled smartphones, laptops and other gadgets.

The Tokyo 2020 Medal Project enlisted the participation of people from across Japan to achieve their goal. The project, which began in April 2017, was able to secure the amount of metals required to produce the medals for the Games and will close the collection of small electronic devices as of March 2019.
