Photographer Built a Replica Chinese Takeout Restaurant in His Studio

One night while driving home from work London photographer Nicky Hamilton spied the owner of a Chinese take-away sitting behind the counter watching the television and just waiting for business. The act of waiting and how we choose to use that time struck a chord with him.
He decided to create a series to portray the act of waiting in this culinary melting pot of Britain. It took around 4 weeks to build a replica of the shop in his studio.  The shop owner lent the shop's original paintings and props which have been up since the 1960s and agreed to star in the series.

He titled the series Take Me Away.

  1. I don't understand why he needed to build a replica. The guy was willing, going so far as lending the art work, why not shoot at the food place?

  2. You're right. It seems like an awful lot of effort.
