The Bombing of Nagasaki

On this day in1945, three days after the bombing of Hiroshima, the US dropped a second atomic bomb on Nagasaki, Japan. The damage to the city was slightly less than that inflicted upon Hiroshima due to the geographic structure of the city. The blast killed 24,000 immediately and another 46,000 died over the next four months from radiation-related illnesses.
