For centuries foot binding was a means of displaying status in China (women from wealthy families, who did not need their feet to work, could afford to have them bound) and was also considered to be a symbol of beauty.
In an effort to humanise the Chinese cultural practice photographer Jo Farrell has spent over a decade documenting the last remaining women in China who have had their feet bound.
