Russian filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky is best known for such cinematic masterpieces as
Solaris,
The Mirror,
Andrei Rublev, and
Stalker. He favoured long takes and leisurely scenes that explored the beauty and mystery of everyday life and his films often seem to be composed as a montage of still photos. His Polaroid photos show a similar way of looking at the world.
