Making Dinner c 1700 BC


Historian and gourmand Annelies Van Wittenberghe shares enticing foodpairings of the past on her blog. In this post she recreates a Venison Cilantro Stew, taking inspiration from the oldest clay tablet ‘cookbook’ in the world (1700 BC).


The tablets, written during the First Babylonian dynasty, contain cooking instructions for thirty-five Akkadian dishes.
