Tombili (a Turkish nickname for a chubby pet) was a street cat who lived in Ziverbey, Istanbul. He gained cult status in the neighbourhood for his "lounge pose". In 2016, Tombili fell ill and eventually died in early August. A sculpture recreating the pose which had gained him fame was erected in his old hangout. A month later it was stolen and there was a huge public outcry. "They stole the Tombili statue. "They are enemies of everything beautiful. All they know is hate, tears and war," said a Turkish MP. The statue was quickly returned.
