Surviving Doomsday in 1980s Britain



Protect and Survive was a public information series of pamphlets, radio broadcasts, and films produced by the British government during the Second Cold War (1979–85)  to inform British citizens on how to protect themselves during a nuclear attack.

Less familiar is the  Protect and Survive Monthly or “PSM”, a British magazine for nuclear doomsday preppers published in the 1980s that might be the bleakest magazine ever published.  



It included topics such as nuclear shelter construction, the burial of loved ones, cannibalism, and even the difficulties of dealing with packs of wild rats.
